Is blood considered impure in Islam?

As-salamu alaykum. Quick question: is blood regarded as impure (najis) in Islam? It feels tricky - when you’re bleeding it’s hard to avoid spreading it on clothes or the floor. Is there clear evidence from the Qur’an or Hadith that blood is najis, and are there practical rules for cleaning it or praying with it on you? Thanks.
