Iran Condemns US Seizure of Cargo Ship in the Strait of Hormuz
Tensions between the United States and Iran escalated after the US Navy fired on and seized an Iranian-flagged cargo vessel near the Strait of Hormuz on Sunday (April 18, 2026). Tehran condemned the action as a violation of the ceasefire and labeled it piracy. The Iranian joint military command stated that this move breaches the still-active ceasefire agreement.
US President Donald Trump said the US Navy's guided-missile destroyer in the Gulf of Oman had issued a warning before disabling the vessel named Touska by destroying its engine room.
