In a statement quoted on Saturday (2/5/2026), Mojtaba Khamenei mentioned that a new chapter is unfolding for the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz. He affirmed Iran's full control over the strategic shipping lanes in the Strait of Hormuz, stating that any foreign power disrupting the region's stability won't last long. This statement follows US policies that have imposed a blockade on Iranian ports since April 13.
Meanwhile, the US government is reportedly working to build an international coalition to secure trade routes through the Strait of Hormuz. Mojtaba Khamenei, who hasn't appeared publicly since the US-Israel joint attack on February 28, has still been appointed as Iran's Supreme Leader, succeeding his father.
