Indonesian Consulate General in Jeddah Confirms Arrest of 7 Indonesian Nationals Related to Alleged Illegal Hajj Promotions in Saudi Arabia
The Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia (KJRI) in Jeddah has confirmed the arrest of seven Indonesian nationals by Saudi Arabian security authorities concerning suspected illegal hajj promotion practices. The Indonesian Consul General in Jeddah, Yusron Ambari, stated that the KJRI protection team has provided assistance to the seven individuals. Seized evidence includes fake Nusuk cards and counterfeit hajj bracelets, as well as cash amounting to around Rp460 million.
The KJRI in Jeddah emphasized that illegal hajj promotion practices are a serious offense in Saudi Arabia and noted the existence of strict surveillance, including monitoring of social media activities. Yusron warned that offenders could face severe penalties such as fines, imprisonment, deportation, and a ban on re-entry into Saudi Arabia.
Legal proceedings against the seven Indonesian nationals are still ongoing and have been transferred to the prosecution. The KJRI stated it would continue to monitor and oversee this legal process. This case serves as an important reminder to follow official channels when performing the Hajj pilgrimage to avoid legal risks and ensure orderly service.
