How to Reassure a Young Girl Who Wishes She Was a Boy?
Recently, I was spending time with my nieces and nephews, and while we were playing, my 8-year-old niece pulled me aside. She whispered that she had something to tell me, but only if I promised not to tell anyone. So I promised, and what she said made me a bit sad. She confessed that she wishes she was a boy because she thinks all the prophets were boys and that boys are faster and stronger. I tried to help her see that being a girl is amazing too, but I felt like my attempt was kinda weak, honestly lol. I mentioned that while the prophets were men, not all men are prophets, so even if she was a boy, that doesn't guarantee anything. And sure, boys might be faster in some things, but girls can do incredible things like become mothers someday-though I realized she might not even know about that yet, oops. I also tried to explain how women hold a very important place in Islam, but I guess it was a bit too complex for her age. So, sisters, did any of you feel this way when you were younger? What would you have liked to hear in that moment? And what should I say if she brings it up again, keeping in mind she's only 8? Jazakallah khair for your advice!
