House Pushes to Halt Basic Military Training for Kopdes Merah Putih Manager Candidates After 5 Participants Die
Commission I of the House of Representatives is urging the Ministry of Defense to temporarily stop the basic military training (latsarmil) for prospective managers of Kopdes Merah Putih and Kampung Nelayan Merah Putih after five participants died. Commission I member Oleh Soleh considers this incident very serious and not to be taken lightly.
Oleh called for a thorough evaluation of the program and a complete overhaul of the training system, adjusting the physical training for participants who are civilians, not military soldiers. He emphasized that the participants are the nation's best sons and daughters who want to contribute to the community's economic development.
The five victims who died are Yonanda Muhammad Taufiq, Anisa Muyassaroh, Novia Rahmadhani Sihotang, Muhammad Rifki Renaldi Gunawan, and Nola Dya Sari, who passed away between June 17–26, 2025. Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin had previously ordered adjustments to training intensity based on participants' conditions.
