Halal Certification as a Strategy for Mojokerto's SMEs to Level Up in the Market
Halal products are considered a strategic opportunity for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to enhance their competitiveness in an open market. This was stated by the Regent of Mojokerto, Muhammad Albarraa (Gus Barra), during the Socialization for Accelerating Halal Certification at the Graha Maja Tama Hall, Wednesday (29/4). He emphasized that halal certification is now not just a regulatory obligation but a market need and a form of consumer protection.
Gus Barra explained that the acceleration of certification aligns with government policy through the Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH), supporting the people's economy. To date, around 500 halal certificates have been facilitated for MSMEs in Mojokerto Regency. The local government is strengthening synergies with various parties, including Airlangga University, PT Ajinomoto Indonesia, and Bank Indonesia, to support this.
In the short term, the Mojokerto Regency Government is encouraging halal literacy and intensive mentoring, and integrating services like Business Identification Numbers (NIB) with halal certification. For the long term, the region targets becoming a strong halal-based economic hub in East Java. The Head of the Industry and Trade Office, Noerhono, added that this activity aims to realize Mojokerto Regency as a competitive and sustainable center for halal MSMEs.
