Gus Alex Spills the Beans at Hajj Quota Trial: There Was a Request for “Prayer Mat and Dates Money” from the DPR Hajj Working Committee
BANDA ACEH – The trial on suspected corruption in hajj quotas at the Central Jakarta Anti-Corruption Court has revealed new facts. Defendant Ishfah Abidal Azis, also known as Gus Alex, mentioned there was a request for money from members of the 2024 Hajj Working Committee of Commission VIII of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), referred to as “prayer mat and dates money.”
In front of the panel of judges, Gus Alex explained that 24 people each asked for 3,000 riyals, but he could only manage to prepare 1,500 riyals per person from honorarium funds. The money was handed over in cash and tied to the need to buy souvenirs while supervising the pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia.
Additionally, Gus Alex revealed he once met three leaders of Commission VIII of the DPR RI-Marwan Dasopang, Abdul Wachid, and Ashabul Kahfi-on the initiative of the Hajj Working Committee, conveyed through a staffer named Yusuf. During that meeting, he was asked to collect money from catering providers but never actually carried out that request.
