Government Pushes Food Exports to Saudi Arabia for Hajj and Umrah Catering
Minister of Hajj and Umrah of the Republic of Indonesia, Mochammad Irfan Yusuf, said the government is pushing for the export of Indonesian food commodities to Saudi Arabia to meet the catering needs of Hajj and Umrah pilgrims. He said this while accompanying the Amirul Hajj Team on a review of consumption service providers in Medina.
Top products like rice, crackers, coconut milk, catfish, and cooking spices are seen as having big potential to enter the catering market. But challenges like high logistics costs and geopolitical conditions are still obstacles.
The minister is optimistic that this is a strategic opportunity, considering millions of pilgrims need consumption services every year. The government is also open to including provisions on the use of Indonesian products in future Hajj catering contracts.
