Former Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad Reportedly Recruited by Mossad
Former Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is alleged to have been recruited by Israeli intelligence agency Mossad in a covert effort to overthrow the Tehran government. A report from The New York Times, citing US and Iranian sources, says Ahmadinejad made several trips to Hungary in 2024–2025 under the pretext of attending climate conferences.
During these visits, he reportedly held secret meetings with former Mossad chief David Barnea and Israeli intelligence agents. Israel is also said to have funded his travel and accommodations. Ahmadinejad reportedly changed his appearance and learned English to be more accepted in the West.
The culmination came in late February 2026 when an Israeli airstrike hit his residence in Tehran, and he was evacuated by Mossad agents. He is now reportedly under house arrest by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) after his ties to Israel came to light. A source close to Ahmadinejad said he was disillusioned with Iran's political system and intended to recognize Israel through the Abraham Accords if he returned to power.
