Finance Minister Purbaya Denies Village Cooperative Manager Salary of Rp16 Million: Too High
Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa denied reports that the manager of the Merah Putih Village/Subdistrict Cooperative would earn Rp16 million per month. He called the figure unreasonable and too large, even exceeding the Provincial Minimum Wage. "If it's Rp16 million, it must be wrong, it seems way too big," said Purbaya in Jakarta, Sunday (8/9/2026).
Purbaya confirmed that the government has not yet set the salary amount and would not approve such a high figure. The government is currently still putting together the initial operational financing scheme for the village cooperatives, including the manager's salary which will be covered by the state budget for the first two years.
Cooperatives Minister Ferry Juliantono mentioned that the provisions for cooperative governance will be regulated in a Presidential Regulation that is still being finalized. That rule will include the pay mechanism, but the exact amount has not been announced yet.
