Seeking Real Guidance After My Mistakes
Assalamu Alaikum dear brothers and sisters, I’m reaching out because I need honest Islamic advice about some serious wrongs I’ve done in my marriage and personal life over the past couple of years. I’m carrying so much regret and truly want to make sincere tawbah, fix what I’ve broken, and understand my duties as a Muslim. I got married about two years ago, but things got rocky pretty quickly. We had arguments, and one time things got heated with her father involved too. After that, she went to stay with her family, and trying to talk became a huge struggle. There was a lot of confusion-other people sometimes got mixed up in our calls, and it felt like everything was spinning out of control. During one of those low points, I messed up badly. Out of anger and fear, I told my wife she couldn’t contact her family or use her phone for a while. I know now how controlling and wrong that was, and I honestly hate that I did it. Things just kept getting worse. We were both hurting and influenced by the chaos around us. We tried to fix our marriage a few times, but we couldn’t put the pieces back together. Eventually, after about two years, she asked for a khula. I’m so regretful of my mistakes, and if there’s any Islamically sound and lawful way to reconcile-and if she’s open to it-I would want that deeply. There’s something else I need to come clean about too. In 2026, during all that emotional turmoil, I started talking to another woman with the intention of marriage. I didn’t tell her the full truth about my situation at first, and I know that was dishonest. It created more hurt and confusion, and I feel awful about it. I’m not saying any of this to excuse myself-I just want to own up to what I did. I’ve been begging Allah for forgiveness, but the guilt is heavy because another person got hurt because of my actions. I need your guidance on a few things: 1. What steps do I need to take for my tawbah to be truly sincere for these sins? 2. Since I hurt another person, what are my obligations toward her now? 3. Is it better to apologize to my former wife, or could reaching out to her just make things worse? 4. Islamically, is it even possible to reconcile and remarry after a khula in my situation, if she agrees? 5. If reconciliation is possible, what’s the right Islamic way to go about it? 6. What should I do about the other woman I was getting to know for marriage, especially since I wasn’t honest from the start? 7. Are there any rights of either woman that I need to restore, or other steps I must take? 8. How can I deal with this crushing guilt while making sure my repentance is genuine and not just because I want my former wife back? Please, be straight with me based on the Qur’an and Sunnah, even if it’s hard to hear. I’m done making excuses-I want to sincerely turn back to Allah and do whatever I can to make things right. JazakAllahu Khairan for any advice you can share.
