East Kalimantan Qari Wins First Place at 2026 International Quran Recitation Competition in Russia
Qari from East Kalimantan, Imranul Karim, successfully secured first place at the 2026 International Quran Recitation Competition (Musabaqah Tilawatil Quran) in Kazan, Russia, held from April 22–25, 2026. This victory isn't just an individual achievement, but it represents the strength of Quran recitation training in Indonesia that can compete on a global level.
Director of Islamic Religious Information at the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Muchlis M Hanafi, expressed appreciation for this achievement. He believes this success shows the consistent development of recitation training that continues to grow. "Imranul Karim's achievement is a source of pride for Indonesia and demonstrates that the quality of our qaris can compete internationally," said Muchlis in the Ministry's press release.
The competition was attended by participants from 30 countries, with strict judging covering aspects of tajwid, fashahah, and maqamat. Muchlis emphasized that this achievement is the result of hard work, support from mentors, and the role of the Quran Recitation Development Institute (LPTQ) in tiered training. This success also inspires the younger generation to love and study the Quran more.
