DKM and BKM: Two Terms, One Spirit in Prospering the Mosque
BANDA ACEH - Mosque management in Indonesia knows the terms Dewan Kemakmuran Masjid (DKM) and Badan Kemakmuran Masjid (BKM). Both share the same main functions and goals, which are managing and prospering the mosque as well as serving the congregation. DKM generally refers to the internal board that handles worship activities, preaching, social affairs, administration, finance, and the mosque's facilities and infrastructure. Meanwhile, BKM in the context of the Ministry of Religious Affairs is the Badan Kesejahteraan Masjid formed under PMA Number 54 of 2006, functioning to guide and strengthen the role of mosques more broadly.
The Aceh Regional Office of the Ministry of Religious Affairs emphasizes there's no dualism between them. DKM or the mosque prosperity body focuses on internal mosque management, while the Ministry's BKM carries out guidance, coordination, and mosque empowerment functions. Both can reinforce each other: DKM/takmir brings the mosque to life from within, while the Ministry's BKM supports improvements in management, prosperity, and maintenance of the mosque.
Prospering a mosque isn't just about physical buildings. A prosperous mosque is one that buzzes with worship, knowledge, preaching, social care, and activities that benefit the community. With synergy between DKM and BKM, it's hoped the mosque can truly become a center of prosperity for the ummah.
