Death toll from NTT earthquake rises to 38
The death toll from the Nagekeo earthquake in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) has risen to 38 as of Saturday (15/8) at 3:00 PM WIB. Head of BNPB Lt. Gen. TNI Suharyanto said two people were seriously injured, 11 suffered minor injuries, and around 2,000 people have self-evacuated.
The quake also triggered landslides, damaged dozens of homes, and caused damage to health facilities. One hospital in Maumere and many community health centers were damaged. Five airports were affected, mainly in terminal buildings, along with two ports: Reo Port and Maumere Port.
The magnitude 7.7 earthquake shook Nagekeo Regency early Saturday morning. BMKG had issued a tsunami early warning which ended at 7:30 AM WIB.
