Consultant Doctor: Doctor Icha Already Complied with SOP, Snakebite Case Didn’t Need Antivenom
The death of Doctor Eliza Princila Utami Pakaenoni (Doctor Icha) in Kupang on Friday, June 26, 2026, is still under the spotlight. Doctor Icha is believed to have suffered from depression due to intimidation by a member of the Timor Tengah Utara Regional House of Representatives, regarding the treatment of a snakebite patient at Leona Kefamenanu Regional Hospital.
Venomous snake toxicology specialist, Tri Maharani, stated that Doctor Icha had consulted and followed all her advice correctly and appropriately. "The snakebite case was consulted with me and did not require antivenom because it was a local phase. Not because there was no antivenom, but indeed it wasn’t needed because it was a local phase and the patient had already gone home," she explained via social media.
She emphasized that Doctor Icha had carried out her duties according to SOP, and hopes there will be no more intimidation or criminalization of healthcare workers in carrying out their devotion to saving lives.
