Complete Solar Eclipse Prayer: Arabic, Latin, Meaning, and How to Perform the Eclipse Prayer
A solar eclipse is one of the signs of Allah's greatness. Muslims are encouraged to increase prayers, remembrance, and worship during this phenomenon. Allah says in Surah Fussilat verse 37 that the sun and moon are signs of His power, and people are commanded to prostrate only to Allah.
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, "Indeed, the sun and moon are two signs among the signs of Allah. They do not eclipse because of someone's death or birth. So when you see them, invoke Allah, say 'Allahu Akbar,' pray, and give charity." (Narrated by Bukhari and Muslim).
Some supplications to recite during an eclipse include: Subhanallah walhamdulillah wala ilaha illallah wallahu akbar, followed by prayers praising Allah as Al-Khaliq (the Creator), Al-Bari' (the Maker), and Al-Mushawwir (the Fashioner). In addition to supplications, it is recommended to perform the eclipse prayer, which consists of two rak'ahs, either in congregation or individually, with a special method that includes two bowings (ruku') in each rak'ah.
