Can You Still Pray Fajr at 5:30? Here Are the Time Limits and Evidence
You can still pray Fajr at 5:30 as long as the sun hasn't risen in your area. Based on BMKG data on July 27, 2026, sunrise is at 6:04 AM WIB in Jakarta, 6:34 AM WIB in Banda Aceh, and 5:45 AM WIT in Jayapura. But, delaying prayer until it's almost sunrise without a valid Islamic reason is makruh (disliked). The Prophet (PBUH) said that the time for Fajr prayer is from the appearance of fajr shadiq (true dawn) until before sunrise (narrated by Muslim).
If you miss Fajr because you overslept or forgot, it's obligatory to make it up (qada) when you remember. The Prophet (PBUH) said, "Whoever forgets a prayer or misses it due to sleep, the expiation for it is to perform it when he remembers" (narrated by Bukhari and Muslim). It's not considered neglecting prayer if you overslept, but neglecting prayer is when you deliberately delay it until the next prayer time comes in. When making it up, the intention is: Usholli fardhos subhi rok'ataini mustaqbilal qiblati qodho'an lillahi ta'ala.
Praying on time has great virtues. The Prophet (PBUH) said that praying on time is among the deeds most beloved to Allah (narrated by Muslim). Also, praying Fajr on time can erase sins, you'll be guarded by angels, it brings health, softens the heart, and saves you from hellfire.
