Bloh Apui from West Aceh Presented at International Symposium at UI
Muhammad Fadli Muslimin, M.A. from the Indonesian Institute of Arts and Culture in Aceh participated in the International Research Symposium: Sensing Space, Ritual & Economy organized by the University of Indonesia on April 27–28, 2026, in Depok. In this academic forum, which brought together researchers from various national and international institutions, he presented a study titled "Rituals in the Performing Arts: The Structure and Function of Bloh Apui, West Aceh."
This study discusses Bloh Apui not only as a performing art but as a cultural practice containing integrated ritual, spiritual, and social dimensions within the life of the Samatiga community in West Aceh. The tradition is examined as part of a living system of values that is continuously passed down within the local community.
During the discussion, symposium participants highlighted various aspects, including the correlation of the Bloh Apui ritual with ancient Acehnese manuscripts and the impact of its designation as an Intangible Cultural Heritage. Muhammad Fadli Muslimin emphasized that support from the local community is the main capital for sustaining the tradition while also opening opportunities for development in social, cultural, and economic fields.
The West Aceh Education and Culture Office appreciated this presentation as an opportunity to introduce Bloh Apui to a broader international academic forum.
