Assalaamualaikum - What should I do about Maghrib timing on the company bus?
Assalaamualaikum, I'm dealing with a problem since starting my new job and could use some advice. I take the company bus to and from work because I don't drive. The bus usually leaves the office around 5:20pm, and I don't get home until about 7:50–8:00pm. That means Maghrib time falls while I'm on the bus. The driver sometimes stops at a gas station to pray Maghrib, but the facility there has only a men's musalla and people often just pray outside on the concrete. As a woman I can't join them praying out in the open like that - I feel uncomfortable and exposed even though I wear hijab and abaya. I also usually am not in wudu on the bus, so I don't have a convenient place to perform wudu. The driver does what he wants and doesn't really listen when others ask him to stop differently. People around me say I should combine Maghrib and Isha (jamāʿah) later, but I'm not sure if that's right for my situation and I'm worried I might be sinning or neglecting my obligation. I need to keep this job, so leaving isn't an option. I'm really upset when I miss Maghrib and it's affecting me emotionally. Can anyone suggest a practical and Islamically appropriate solution? For example: - Is it acceptable to pray Maghrib sitting on the bus if there’s no private place? How should I make wudu if needed? - Could I perform tayammum if water isn’t available and conditions allow? - Is it allowed to combine Maghrib and Isha in this circumstance, and what should I consider before doing so? - Any ideas about politely asking the driver to stop somewhere more appropriate, or discreet places to pray that maintain my privacy? JazakAllahu khairan for any help - I just want to do this correctly and not feel guilty about missing the prayer.
