Alleged Sexual Abuse Case at Ndholo Kusumo Islamic Boarding School in Pati: Kyai Ashari Arrested as Suspect
Pati City Police have named Kyai Ashari, the caretaker of the Ndholo Kusumo Islamic Boarding School in Pati Regency, as a suspect in a case of alleged sexual abuse involving dozens of female students. The case, which surfaced in late April 2026, is suspected to involve teenage girl victims from vulnerable backgrounds, with the modus operandi being an abuse of authority as the pesantren's supervisor. As of May 3, 2026, Ashari had not been detained even though his status had been upgraded to the investigation stage.
The Ndholo Kusumo Foundation has suspended Ashari from all activities and temporarily sent female students home. The Ministry of Religious Affairs has halted new student registrations at the boarding school. The public, through a peaceful action on May 2, 2026, has demanded a fair legal process and an evaluation of the supervision system in pesantren.
The legal representative for the victims, Advocate Ali Yusron, reported allegations of a bribe offer from Ashari's side which was rejected. This case has become a national focus to ensure that religious educational institutions remain safe and trustworthy environments. The legal process is still ongoing, with the hope that justice will soon be served.
