Adhie M. Massardi Says Jokowi's Supporters Damage Gus Dur's Legacy of Pluralism
The viral clip of a sermon by the 10th and 12th Vice President of Indonesia, Jusuf Kalla (JK), has sparked a controversy, with supporters of President Joko Widodo reporting JK to the police over alleged blasphemy. Adhie M. Massardi, spokesperson for Indonesia's 4th President Abdurrahman Wahid (Gus Dur), responded harshly to the action, saying it potentially damages interfaith harmony.
In an official statement on Saturday, April 25, 2026, Adhie criticized "Joko Widodo's people" who are suspected of twisting JK's sermon. He emphasized that such political methods threaten the monument of pluralism that Gus Dur built with integrity and dedication.
Adhie also expressed concern through a "National Appeal," stating that the "virus of division" carried since the 2012 Jakarta gubernatorial election is dangerous for the nation. He described practices like using buzzers, slander, and provocation as having immorally discredited political opponents, endangering the foundation of unity built during the Reformation era.
