A total of 24 people who were detained by the police after a rally in front of Grahadi Building, Surabaya, on Friday (6/25), have been gradually released starting Saturday (6/27) evening. The release was carried out after the examination process was completed.
However, some of those released were reported to have physical injuries. A Unair student with the initials RD was seen with a bruised face and bleeding in the eye, while his friend RA complained of stomach pain since being arrested.
KontraS Surabaya coordinator revealed that among the 24 people there were four university students, two underage students, and a coffee seller who also acted as an orator. The inspection was mostly focused on the contents of the speeches delivered.
LBH Surabaya confirmed that the release was done in stages according to legal procedures. As of Saturday night, supporters were still keeping vigil in front of Surabaya Police Headquarters to make sure all the protesters were released safely.
