Wondering About Al-Aqsa Mosque's Importance?

Salam everyone, I'm not a Muslim, I'm Jewish. Some folks at my synagogue have been saying some pretty negative things about the Al-Aqsa Mosque and even talking about it being destroyed. Personally, I'm more focused on cultural heritage than political movements, so I don't agree with them, but since they're open to discussion, I wanted to explain that it's not just any mosque-it's a truly significant site in Islam. I thought who better to ask than Muslims themselves to get a clear understanding, insha'Allah.
