Why I Chose Two Minutes Each Morning Over Billions - As-salamu alaykum
As-salamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh. TL;DR: While the world chases monetary riches, I found something priceless that I spend less than two minutes on every morning. I wake up at 5 AM for it. Here's why it matters. The Moment That Changed Me Six years ago I embraced Islam and it shifted how I view life. I used to watch billionaires and their empires on the news, thinking success was measured in money and influence. Then I learned a hadith that flipped everything for me: the Prophet ﷺ said that the two Rak'ahs of Fajr are better than this world and all it contains. At first it sounded like beautiful words, but I came to see it as a literal statement about a form of wealth that never loses value. Why Those Two Rak'ahs Matter More Than You Think Material wealth is temporary-fortunes rise and fall, companies fail, markets crash. The reward for doing these two Sunnah Rak'ahs, however, is lasting. The Prophet ﷺ explained that worldly blessings can fade with effort and fatigue, but the reward for these prayers remains. So while people burn out chasing returns, this spiritual reward never depreciates. How I'm Wealthier Than Any Billionaire (From My Perspective) Each morning when I perform those two Rak'ahs, I feel like I’m investing in something that outvalues any financial fortune. Every Muslim who consistently wakes for Fajr and performs these Sunnah prayers is, in that sense, part of an exclusive group holding eternal wealth. What Changed in My Life Over Six Years I won’t pretend waking at 5 AM is easy. Some mornings the bed wins. But the effects have been real: - My priorities shifted. Starting the day recognizing something greater than myself reshaped decisions. - I gained a deep sense of security that market crashes can’t touch. - My approach to material success mellowed. I made clearer, less desperate choices, which ironically helped me do better in business and life. This Isn’t Only for the Spiritual Types This practice isn’t about becoming an ascetic. It’s for everyone - business owners, employees, parents, students. The Prophet ﷺ wasn’t promoting poverty but reordering priorities: secure the eternal, then pursue the temporal. A Simple Invitation I’m not here to judge anyone who hasn’t found this yet-I was in the same place six years ago. My testimony is simple: you don’t need billions to be truly wealthy. Wake up before dawn, 365 days a year, and spend two minutes on those Sunnah Rak'ahs. The Prophet ﷺ also said that whoever prays Fajr is under Allah’s protection - a kind of protection no insurance can match. The 30-Day Challenge Try it for 30 days: wake up for Fajr and do the two Sunnah Rak'ahs before the fard. Maybe you won’t notice a change on day one or fifteen, but by day thirty something often clicks. You may begin to feel truly wealthy in a new way. Closing Thoughts After six years as a Muslim, this remains my most powerful lesson: every morning, before most of the world wakes, I’m earning rewards that will accompany me after death. That isn’t just religion - it’s a kind of math. Wealth you can’t lose. Start small if you need to, be sincere, and make consistency your goal. May Allah make us among those who observe the Sunnah prayers and guide us to seek eternal wealth over fleeting gains. Ameen. Wa alaikum assalam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh.
