US Prohibits Israeli Attacks on Lebanon After Ceasefire Takes Effect
U.S. President Donald Trump warned Israel to halt attacks on Lebanon after a ceasefire came into effect on Friday, April 17, 2026. Attacks by Israeli forces were reported to continue in southern Lebanon despite the ceasefire being announced a day earlier.
Trump emphasized that his administration is actively prohibiting Israel from carrying out further attacks. "Israel will no longer bomb Lebanon. They are prohibited from doing so by the U.S. Enough is enough!" he wrote on his Truth Social media account, as quoted on Saturday, April 18, 2026. He also stated that the Lebanon-Israel ceasefire was agreed upon separately from the U.S. peace negotiations with Iran.
More than 2,200 people have been reported killed and 7,185 injured during Israel's 45-day assault on Lebanon, with over 1 million people displaced. Trump announced a 10-day ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon last Thursday, while the U.S. committed to continue cooperating with Lebanon and dealing with the Hezbollah group appropriately.
