US President says he'll help resolve Afghanistan–Pakistan tensions quickly - prayers for peace
As-salamu alaykum. I came across this news and thought I’d share a simple take. US President Donald Trump said he expects to help resolve the recent Afghanistan–Pakistan crisis “very quickly,” as talks between the two neighbors moved into a second day in Istanbul.
The two countries have been in a serious security dispute after deadly clashes earlier this month - the worst in years - which raised concerns because extremist groups like Al‑Qaeda could try to take advantage of the instability. Pakistan accuses Afghanistan of allowing militants to cross the border to carry out attacks; Afghanistan’s Taliban rulers deny that.
The delegates met to try to turn the fragile ceasefire agreed in Doha into a more lasting arrangement covering peace and border security. Reports say Afghanistan presented a draft asking Pakistan not to violate Afghan territory or airspace and to prevent any anti‑Afghan groups from operating from Pakistani soil. They also expressed willingness to set up a four‑way channel to monitor the ceasefire and share information about violations. Pakistan reportedly sent a counter‑draft Saturday evening.
President Trump, speaking on the sidelines of an ASEAN meeting in Malaysia, said he’d look into the matter and hoped to get it solved quickly, praising the leaders of Pakistan. His comments may spur Pakistan’s political and military leaders, who have sought stronger ties with the United States; Pakistan has also welcomed his role in easing a separate crisis with India earlier this year.
May Allah grant wisdom to the leaders and protect civilians. Hopefully the talks lead to a durable peace and reduce suffering for families on both sides of the border.
