Update on M7.7 NTT Earthquake: 72 Dead, 900 Injured
The 7.7 magnitude earthquake that struck Nagekeo Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, on Saturday (15/8/2026) at 04:58 WIB resulted in 72 deaths, 900 injuries, and 82,691 people displaced. BNPB data as of Thursday (20/8/2026) records the earthquake's impact across three provinces, nine regencies, and one city.
Material damage includes 29,001 damaged houses (11,699 heavily damaged, 6,542 moderately damaged, 10,760 lightly damaged) as well as 804 educational facilities, 237 health facilities, 195 places of worship, and other infrastructure.
Emergency response is focused on search and rescue, health services, logistics fulfillment, and restoration of basic infrastructure. The central government has established Main Assistance Posts in Labuan Bajo and Maumere. PLN has restored electricity along all affected national roads, while Pertamina confirms most gas stations in Flores are operating normally.
