‘Unjust’: 154 Freed Palestinian Prisoners Forced into Exile by Israel
As-salamu alaykum dear brothers and sisters,
Many Palestinian families who have been eagerly waiting for their imprisoned loved ones to return are now heartbroken to hear that these prisoners will be sent away to other countries instead of coming back home.
At least 154 Palestinian brothers who are being released soon as part of an exchange deal will unfortunately be forced into exile by Israeli authorities, according to the Palestinian Prisoners’ Media Office.
These men are part of a larger group, including 250 Palestinians held in Israeli prisons and about 1,700 taken from Gaza during recent conflicts. Many were taken without clear information, according to reports from the United Nations. In exchange, Hamas and other Palestinian groups have released 20 Israeli captives under a ceasefire agreement.
Where these freed brothers will be sent remains unclear, but last January, some were sent to countries like Tunisia, Algeria, and Turkey.
Experts say this forced exile is against their rights as Palestinians and shows the unfair treatment in these prisoner swaps. Tamer Qarmout, a public policy expert from Doha Institute, said this exile is a bigger prison for them, away from their families and communities, which is truly unjust and harsh.
Relatives of one prisoner, Muhammad Imran, shared their shock. They had been told he would return home, but now he will be sent abroad. His family hopes to see him again, insha’Allah, whether here or afar.
The exile means many families might never see their loved ones again, as travel restrictions are very tight.
This forced exile seems to be a tactic to stop these brothers from supporting their community or taking part in any future struggle. It’s a painful separation and a heavy burden on the families left behind.
While the released Israeli captives can return to their normal lives, these Palestinian prisoners face ongoing hardship and displacement, highlighting the double standards in this conflict.
May Allah grant ease to all affected and bring justice and peace to the region soon.
