Ugandan General's Controversial Statement Regarding Relations with Turkey
The head of Uganda's Armed Forces, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, sparked controversy with a social media statement demanding the Turkish government hand over 1 billion US dollars (approximately Rp 17 trillion) as a 'security dividend.' In a post on X on Saturday (11/4/2026), Kainerugaba also expressed a desire to marry the 'most beautiful girl in Turkey' as a precondition before starting diplomatic dialogue.
Kainerugaba, the son of Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, threatened to take tough measures if the demand is not met within 30 days. The threats include closing the Turkish Embassy in Kampala, banning Turkish Airlines from entering Ugandan airspace, and severing all diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Previously, General Kainerugaba also gained international attention after stating Uganda's readiness to support Israel in the Middle East conflict with 100,000 troops. As a presidential candidate, he is considered one of the most influential figures in Uganda today.
