Two Decades On, Compensation for Al-Ikhlas Mosque Affected by Lapindo Mudflow Still Unresolved
The impact of the Lapindo mudflow in Porong District, Sidoarjo, still leaves compensation issues, including for Al-Ikhlas Mosque managed by the Darussalam Foundation in Mindi Village. Even though the 500-square-meter building still stands and is used by residents, the compensation payment hasn't been realized to this day.
A representative of the waqif family, Achmad Rofi’i, stated that he still holds the original mosque certificate because the payment process stalled on the grounds that the budget for public and social facilities was insufficient. Meanwhile, other foundation assets like the Islamic boarding school and madrasa have already received compensation. According to Presidential Regulation No. 14 of 2007, areas within the Affected Area Map (PAT) are the responsibility of Minarak Lapindo Jaya, while those outside the embankment are the government's obligation.
Entering the 20th year of the disaster, residents hope the government will promptly resolve the compensation issues, especially outside the affected map. Rofi’i emphasized that the government shouldn't focus only on the area inside the embankment, because residents outside also have the right to certainty and settlement of the impacts they've experienced. Al-Ikhlas Mosque itself remains a center of worship and a stopover place for travelers.
