Tragic Head‑On Crash on Kampala–Gulu Highway Kills Dozens - May Allah Have Mercy
Assalamu alaikum. May Allah grant patience to the families affected.
At least 46 people have lost their lives in a serious road accident on the Kampala–Gulu Highway, police say. The crash happened just after midnight near Kiryandongo, about 263 km from Kampala, when two buses heading in opposite directions collided head-on while both were trying to overtake a truck and a car.
Authorities first reported a higher death toll during early rescue efforts but later revised the number down after finding some unconscious victims who were initially counted as dead. The Uganda Police Force urged motorists to be extra careful on the roads and to avoid dangerous overtaking, which remains a major cause of accidents.
A Red Cross spokesperson said the scene was horrific, with many victims bleeding and suffering broken limbs. The Kampala–Gulu Highway is one of the busiest routes connecting the capital to northern Uganda, and road deaths have been rising - police figures show 5,144 people died on Ugandan roads in 2024, up from previous years.
May Allah forgive the deceased and grant healing to the injured. Please keep the victims and their families in your duas and drive safely - avoid risky overtaking and always take caution on the road.
