The role of religion in protecting youth: thoughts after the round table at the Public Chamber
As-salamu alaykum. There was a discussion at the Public Chamber about the role of religion in protecting young people from harmful content.
Joining the discussion were the chairman of the Muftiate of the Republic of Dagestan, Abdullah Salimov, and the deputy Mufti of the Republic of Dagestan, Dr. Muhanad Jamal As-Sakka.
The event was organized by the Commission on Interethnic and Interreligious Relations and the Spiritual Assembly of Muslims of Russia. Moderators included the chairman of the commission, Vladimir Zorin, and the deputy chairman, head of the Spiritual Assembly of Muslims of Russia, Albir Krganov.
In his speech, Abdullah Salimov particularly emphasized that raising young people is, to a large extent, the responsibility of parents.
"The youth problem is always a problem for parents," he said.
He gave an example from a parent-teacher meeting: only a few parents admitted they find even an hour a day to talk with their kids.
"These days, a child sometimes won't eat without a phone in front of them and won't do their homework without the promise of watching a video. But a parent, while talking with their child, can understand their life and help filter out harmful information," Salimov added.
Participants discussed how the state, religious organizations, and society can work together to protect young people from destructive content and raise a generation resilient to information threats.
In conclusion: it's important not only to criticize the media but also to return to family communication, setting examples for our children and instilling values based on our faith. Wa alaykum as-salam.
