The Qur'an as a Source of Tranquility for the Heart and Mind
The Qur'an was revealed by Allah SWT as a guide to life for Muslims. Within it are a number of surahs and verses that can serve as a means to calm the heart and mind, especially when facing difficult circumstances, anxiety, or pressure. Reading and practicing the teachings of the Qur'an is encouraged to attain inner peace and assistance from Allah SWT.
Some of the surahs and verses mentioned that can be practiced include: Surah Ar-Ra'd verse 28, which affirms the tranquility of the heart through remembrance (dhikr); Surah Al-Insyirah, which reminds one of the promise of ease following hardship; Surah Al-Mulk, which reminds one of Allah's dominion and holds the virtue of intercession; as well as Surah Yasin, As-Sajdah, and Taha verse 2. Surah Al-Ikhlas, Al-Falaq, and An-Nas are known as chapters of protection.
Other verses also mentioned for calming the heart are Surah Ali 'Imran verse 173 ("Hasbunallah wa ni'mal wakil"), Al-Baqarah verse 250 (a prayer for patience and steadfastness), and Al-Baqarah verse 274, which explains the tranquility for those who give charity. The practice of reading and contemplating the meanings of these verses is part of worship and remembrance of Allah SWT.
