Strengthening UMK Halal Ahead of Mandatory Halal 2026, Here's BPJPH's New Strategy
The Halal Product Assurance Organizing Agency (BPJPH) stressed how crucial it is to expand halal certification facilities for micro and small businesses (UMK) to beef up local halal ecosystems and boost local products' competitiveness ahead of Mandatory Halal in October 2026.
BPJPH's Main Secretary Muhammad Aqil Irham said that beefing up halal certification services needs collaboration from many parties, including local governments, BAZNAS, the Indonesian Waqf Board, and CSR programs. Halal certification isn't just about regulatory compliance, but also a tool to strengthen businesses and increase consumer trust.
As of June 15, 2026, there were 23,390 business players with 51,301 halal-certified products, mostly from the food and beverage sector. Most were issued through the Sehati program's self-declare scheme to make it easier for UMK to get certified. This step is expected to spur the growth of both national and global halal industries.
