A message to Muslims who think joking about religion is funny or try to please non-Muslims by siding with them against Islam
Subhan Allah, when I see some Muslims belittling their religion by joking around or flattering non-Muslims at the expense of their faith, I remember Allah's words in Surah At-Tawbah: "And if you ask them, they will surely say, 'We were only conversing and playing.' Say, 'Is it Allah and His verses and His Messenger that you were mocking?' Make no excuse; you have disbelieved after your belief." (65-66). Meaning, this isn't a small thing-mocking Allah, His verses, or His Messenger ﷺ can actually take you out of the fold of Islam, may Allah protect us! And also in Surah Al-Baqarah, our Lord warns us: "And never will the Jews or the Christians approve of you until you follow their religion. Say, 'Indeed, the guidance of Allah is the [only] guidance.' If you were to follow their desires after what has come to you of knowledge, you would have against Allah no protector or helper." So if a person chases after their approval at the expense of his religion, he'll lose Allah's guardianship and support. Honestly, when someone reads these verses, he needs to pause and ask himself: Am I really careful about my religion, or am I just going with the flow? I ask Allah to keep us firm on the truth and forgive our slips.
