Stand firm against racism, my Muslim family
As-salamu alaykum brothers and sisters, The weakness we see among Muslims today comes from being split into lifeless, arbitrary national divisions. To all my fellow Muslims everywhere: speak up when family or friends promote racist or backward ideas. By Allah, it warms my heart to see groups of Muslims made up of people from different backgrounds, treating each other as siblings. We must avoid falling into the Western traps of racism and extreme nationalism. We are one Ummah, the community and family of Muhammad ibn Abdallah (peace be upon him), and descendants of Adam, Nuh and Ibrahim (peace be upon them). Be proud, Muslim. We should set ourselves apart in character-showing kindness, honour and integrity-without copying others. If you hold exclusionary views, try to meet and befriend people who don’t look like you. Real unity has to grow from everyday relationships. Come on, we’re nearly two billion strong. A Muslim’s true bond and support come from his or her fellow believers. And to those Muslims who compromise their values just to fit in with others: know this, you won’t gain true acceptance there, and you risk your akhirah. Hold firm to your faith. Be proud, unapologetic, and remember our heritage of intelligence, courage, compassion and resilience. The Prophet (peace be upon him) foretold changes in our community’s standing, and while challenges exist, I believe a renewal is coming slowly but surely. Be brave, do not fear harm or death for the sake of what is right. Be steadfast, act justly toward everyone-Muslim and non‑Muslim-because Allah is just and commands justice. I love you all sincerely. Peace be upon you.
