Social Ministry's Public Kitchen Serves Thousands of Earthquake Victims in Sikka and Manggarai
The Ministry of Social Affairs (Kemensos) is running public kitchens to meet the food needs of earthquake victims in Sikka and Manggarai regencies, East Nusa Tenggara. In Sikka, a public kitchen is operating at Samador Sports Hall, Madawat Village, Alok District, producing 4,500 food packages a day for three meals. In Manggarai, a public kitchen is operating in Reok District, producing 3,000 packages a day for two meals. Total daily production is 7,500 packages for affected residents.
Social Affairs Minister Saifullah Yusuf (Gus Ipul) said the operation of public kitchens is adjusted to the conditions in evacuation sites and community needs, including providing tents, clothing, blankets, and supplies for vulnerable groups. Public kitchens are also operating in Nagekeo, Danga Village, Aesesa District, with production of 2,000 packages a day. Total production capacity reaches 9,500 packages a day across the three areas.
Preliminary data shows 1,237 displaced people in Sikka with 4 deaths, 8 serious injuries, and 6 minor injuries. In Manggarai, 13,885 people have been displaced, with 27 deaths, 32 serious injuries, and 104 minor injuries. Kemensos plans to expand public kitchen services to East Manggarai, West Manggarai, and Ngada.
