Small Changes That Deepen Our Worship of Allah
Assalamu alaykum - I recently made a trip to Makkah and while visiting a friend who serves as an imam there, something grabbed my attention. Inside his masjid was an impressive, large carpet, so smooth and soft I couldn’t help but walk on it barefoot. The colors were warm and eye-catching, and I actually sat down for a few minutes just to appreciate it. I liked it so much that I asked my friend where he’d gotten it. I’m an imam in Dubai too, and I’m always looking for little ways to make the prayer space more welcoming for people coming to worship Allah. He told me he hadn’t planned to buy a mosque carpet at all - he ordered what he thought was a decorative rug for his home online. When it arrived it was much larger and more elegant than he expected, and he almost returned it. Instead he brought it to the masjid. SubhanAllah, that carpet made a big difference. People started coming earlier just to pray on it. Visitors dropped in out of curiosity to feel it and many ended up staying for salah. It sparked longer, more sincere conversations after prayer. The whole atmosphere of the masjid felt warmer. Kids used leftover pieces to brighten small corners, and a few adults joked that it inspired them to write short poems after playfully arguing over their favorite spot. It’s striking how one simple thing can draw people closer - to each other and to the place of worship. Have you ever noticed a small change that completely transformed the feel of a masjid?
