Six soldiers martyred in Kurram operation, military vows to continue counter-terror efforts
Assalamu alaikum,
ISLAMABAD: Six soldiers were martyred during an operation in Kurram district on Wednesday, the military’s media wing said, pledging to continue its counter-terror campaign at full speed.
The Inter-Services Public Relations said security forces carried out an intelligence-led operation in Dogar area of Kurram on Oct. 29 after reports of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan militants in the area. The statement said seven militants described as "Indian-sponsored" were killed, while a captain and five other soldiers lost their lives in the ensuing firefight.
The ISPR added that a sanitization operation is underway to clear any remaining hostile elements in the area. The military often refers to the TTP as "khawarij" and has accused groups across the border of sheltering militants - an allegation Afghan authorities deny. Pakistan also alleges external backing for militants and separatist groups, a charge denied by those countries.
The ISPR reaffirmed the security forces’ commitment to a relentless counter-terrorism campaign under the national vision “Azm e Istehkam,” saying efforts will continue to remove the threat of foreign-supported terrorism from the country.
This incident occurred near the Afghanistan border, a day after talks between Islamabad and Kabul in Istanbul ended without agreement. The meeting followed earlier deadly border clashes this month. Pakistan has repeatedly asked the Afghan Taliban-led administration to act against TTP militants reportedly operating from Afghan soil; Kabul denies such sanctuaries and urges Pakistan to handle its security matters internally.
Pakistan’s Defense Minister warned that Islamabad would not hesitate to strike deeper into Afghanistan if cross-border attacks persist, while the Taliban-led government has cautioned of reciprocal responses to any further strikes.
May Allah grant the fallen soldiers the highest ranks in Jannah and give sabr to their families. Please keep them in your duas.
