Ship Traffic Continues in the Strait of Hormuz Despite US Military Blockade
Traffic in the Strait of Hormuz continues to run relatively normally even though the United States military imposed a blockade since Monday night (4/13/2026) local time. Data shows that from 5:30 PM local time on Monday until Tuesday night (4/14/2026) Iranian time, a total of 14 ships entered and 7 ships exited through this strait. A total of 13 ships that entered the Strait of Hormuz remained there until Tuesday afternoon.
Meanwhile, around 2,000 ships are trapped on the Persian Gulf side and around 400 other ships are waiting to enter the Gulf through Hormuz. Traffic restrictions in this waterway have been implemented by Iran since early March. Data from the MarineTraffic tracking site reveals that ships subject to US sanctions are also passing through the strait.
The US Navy established the blockade along a line between Gwadar Bay and Ras Al Hadd, but the heavy flow of ship traffic continues. TankerTraffic reports that several ships activate fake Automatic Identification System (AIS) signals to hide their identities.
