Second Wave of Hajj Operations: Indonesian Ministry of Hajj Enhances Services and Ihram Education
The government, through the Ministry of Hajj of the Republic of Indonesia, continues to strengthen services and protection for Indonesian Hajj pilgrims in Saudi Arabia. The Ministry's spokesperson, Maria Assegaff, stated that Hajj operations up to May 8, 2026, have generally proceeded smoothly. From the second wave, 9 clusters with 3,459 pilgrims have arrived in Jeddah. Maria emphasized the importance of intensive guidance so that pilgrims understand the ihram regulations, including the appropriate use of clothing and sandals from the embarkation point.
The Ministry prioritizes services for elderly, disabled, and vulnerable groups, including in the distribution of Raudhah entry permits, where 32,299 pilgrims have received tasreh. Health-wise, 17,301 pilgrims have undergone outpatient treatment, with 82 pilgrims still hospitalized. The Ministry also expressed condolences for the passing of four pilgrims on May 7, 2026, bringing the total number of deceased pilgrims to 16.
Facing extreme temperatures in Medina and Mecca reaching 41 degrees Celsius, pilgrims are advised to maintain their physical condition by managing worship activities, increasing rest, and staying hydrated. With enhanced services and education, the Ministry hopes this year's Hajj pilgrimage, especially leading up to the peak phase in Arafah, Muzdalifah, and Mina, can proceed optimally.
