Reverted 2 months ago from a Christian background – struggling to feel connected in Salah. Any tips?
Assalamu alaikum, everyone. I embraced Islam about two months ago, and alhamdulillah, the concept of Tawhid really resonated with me-the pure oneness of Allah, no partners or equals. But honestly, I’m finding it tough to feel that spiritual spark in my daily worship right now. I grew up in a Christian community where worship was full of emotion-singing hymns, a warm ambiance, and that immediate sense of God’s presence. Now, with the five daily prayers, it sometimes feels like I’m just going through the motions. My heart feels dry, and I miss that deep closeness to Allah I’m yearning for. It’s making salah feel mechanical, and that bothers me. I even caught myself looking into other faiths because I missed that emphasis on atmosphere and spiritual growth, but I know the theology doesn’t align with Islam. So I’m stuck wondering-how did other reverts, especially from Christian backgrounds, move past this? How do you find presence in salah when you’re used to emotional music and communal singing as the drivers of worship? I’d really appreciate any advice: books, lectures, Qur’an recitations, or daily practices that helped you feel that warmth and connection to Allah. JazakAllah khair for any guidance.
