Reasons Police Haven't Detained Gus Idris in Sexual Harassment Case
Sexual harassment suspect Idris Al-Marbawy, also known as Gus Idris, who runs an Islamic boarding school in Malang Regency, hasn't been detained yet. Malang Police's Women and Children Protection Unit Head, AKP Yuliastana Sri Iriana, said detention hasn't been carried out because the suspect is considered cooperative and his health condition is being taken into account. "He always shows up when asked for statements and is cooperative," she said on Friday (12/6). Gus Idris is charged under Article 6 of Law Number 12 of 2022 on Sexual Violence Crimes, which carries a maximum sentence of 4 years in prison.
The alleged method involved exploiting a close relationship, influence, and the victim's trust. Malang Police Public Relations Head, AKP Bambang Subinajar, explained that investigators already have enough evidence to name him a suspect. Before the examination, investigators summoned him twice, but the suspect didn't show up, citing being out of town and health issues.
Currently, investigators are continuing to complete the case file and will coordinate with the public prosecutor. "The case handling is ongoing. We ensure the entire process is carried out professionally, objectively, and with priority given to protecting the victim," Bambang emphasized.
