Preserving the Culture of Sura Month, Residents of Kampung Ciranggon Kertarahayu Hold the Sedekah Bumi Tradition
Folks in Kampung Ciranggon, Kertarahayu Village, Setu District, Bekasi Regency, once again held the annual Sedekah Bumi tradition on Thursday, June 25, 2026. It’s something they do every Sura month in the Javanese/Islamic calendar, as a way to give thanks for the harvest and keep the ancestors' customs alive.
Kertarahayu Village Head, Rudi Catur Pribadi, calls this tradition a hereditary legacy and a community feast. "This event is a way of expressing gratitude to Allah SWT for the blessings and abundant harvest. People gather bringing food and produce," he said.
More than just a ceremony, Sedekah Bumi aims to strengthen ties, mutual cooperation, and uphold the ancestors' trust so local values don’t get eroded by the times. The village government and residents also offer prayers for blessings, food abundance, and protection from calamities.
Rudi hopes the ecological and spiritual values of this tradition can continue to be passed down to the younger generation in the future.
