Prabowo Receives Hajj Oversight Team Report, Reveals Major Evaluation of 2026 Pilgrimage
President Prabowo Subianto received the Hajj Oversight Team and several ministers at his residence in Hambalang, Bogor, to discuss the evaluation of the 2026 hajj pilgrimage. State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi stated that the meeting was a follow-up to requests from Commission VIII, the Hajj Oversight Team, and the Ministry of Hajj to report on the hajj implementation.
Deputy Minister of Hajj Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak revealed that around 20 improvement points were conveyed, including better movement of pilgrims in Armuzna. The President emphasized that the dream of Muslims to perform hajj must be carried out well.
The evaluation covered aspects of movement in Arafah, Muzdalifah, Mina, and the implementation of health readiness (istitha'ah). The death toll among East Java pilgrims dropped from 104 in 2025 to 65 in 2026, but remains a concern.
As a follow-up, health requirements for the 2027 hajj will be tightened, with stricter screening for prospective pilgrims with conditions like dementia, kidney disease, or tuberculosis, to ensure pilgrims are physically ready to perform the pilgrimage safely and devoutly.
