PPIH Saudi Confirms Indonesian Pilgrims Safe from Fire in Mecca
Head of the Mecca Working Area of PPIH Saudi Arabia, Ihsan Faisal, confirmed that no Indonesian hajj pilgrims were victims in the fire at the Al Hidayah Tower complex, Aziziah, Mecca, on Friday (5/6/2026) around 6 p.m. local time. The fire started from a scooter battery that exploded while being charged in a hotel employee's room.
Fire trucks were immediately deployed and the blaze was successfully extinguished around 8 p.m. Hajj officials together with hotel management evacuated pilgrims in Towers 6, 7, and 8 through emergency stairs, and all pilgrims then safely returned to their respective rooms.
The complex housed pilgrims from Banten, Padang, and Banjarmasin embarkations, but some had already returned home. Ihsan urged pilgrims to be more careful using electrical devices and unplug them when not in use, given the hot weather that increases fire risk.
