Pornography is Forbidden - Practical Tips to Stay Away
"Do not go near adultery. It is truly a shameful deed and an evil way." (Quran 17:32) Watching pornography is forbidden because it leads toward zina, as mentioned in the Qur'an. I know it can be especially difficult for many men these days, but there are steps we can take to protect ourselves. A few suggestions that have helped me and others: * If you feel the urge to watch intentionally, try to delay it and remind yourself that avoiding sin can be a means of Allah protecting you from harm and trials in the future (there are hadiths that encourage avoiding actions that lead to sin). * When you encounter nudity by accident, lower your gaze straight away and avoid looking. Making dhikr or seeking refuge in Allah in that moment can help. * If you're married, turn to your spouse to fulfil your needs and reduce temptation. Open, kind communication and physical intimacy within marriage can really help. * Fill your time with beneficial activities - prayer, reading Qur'an, exercise, learning a new skill, or community work. Keeping busy reduces idle moments when temptation grows. * Use practical barriers: limit alone time with triggers, install web filters, or keep devices out of private spaces at vulnerable times. * Seek support: talk to a trusted brother, sister, or an imam if you struggle. Du'a and consistent repentance help a lot. May Allah grant us strength and protect us from that which leads to sin. Keep trying, be patient with yourself, and keep turning back to Him.
