As-salamu alaykum. According to the UN data, there are currently about 20 terrorist groups operating in Afghanistan. Armands Pupols, an advisor at the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia, clarified that this is mainly the opinion of experts and the specific numbers should be taken with caution.
He also noted signs of improvement in the overall security situation in the country. Earlier, the head of the FSB warned about the rising terrorist threat to the CIS countries involving foreign intelligence services and private military companies.
Afghan authorities had previously stated that they had completely suppressed the activities of ISIS*. The Interior Ministry mentioned that the command of the militants was being carried out from abroad. Meanwhile, the authorities continue to keep the situation at the border under control, considering the possible threat of militants crossing from neighboring countries.
