Pasuruan Regent Voices Concerns of 34,000 Residents Over Land Dispute with Indonesian Navy
Pasuruan Regent Rusdi Sutejo shared the worries of 34,000 residents across 10 villages in Lekok and Nguling sub-districts who are impacted by a land dispute with the Indonesian Navy. The conflict, spanning 3,676 hectares, has been dragging on for around 65 years, even though these villages have been around since 1902. During a hearing with Commission II of the Indonesian House of Representatives, he stressed that the community still hasn’t gotten any legal certainty over their homes and land.
Rusdi Sutejo emphasized that he’s there to find a solution, not to make things worse. He hopes there’s a way out that gives legal certainty for both the residents and the Navy. This unresolved issue is messing with development, like limited education facilities, healthcare, access to drinking water, electricity, internet, roads, and irrigation.
Government strategic programs are also held back, including the Family Hope Program cash aid, the Free Nutritious Meal Program, and the Red-and-White Village Cooperatives. The Pasuruan Regency government is pushing the central government to take real steps so the people can enjoy the same rights as citizens, without ignoring the state's interests according to regulations.
